ACCRUED BENEFITS
These are the type of benefits that were DUE at the time of the Veteran’s death but were not paid.
There are two types of Accrued benefits, that are:
- A claim or appeal for the recurring benefit that was not decided before the veteran passed away. However, all evidence to decide this claim is in the possession of the VA; OR,
- A claim for a benefit that was allowed but the veteran passed away before the benefit was granted.
These benefits go to the surviving dependent based on the relationship to that dependent. The types of survivors are as such:
- Spouse
- Child
- Parents
- Sole parent
NOTE: if the surviving spouse is deceased, then the VA will consider the list of possible dependents listed above. Please contact us to discuss these details.
Burial Reimbursements:
- There is eligibility and entitlement to burial benefits. It is much easier for you to follow the link, https://www.benefits.va.gov/compensation/claims-special-burial.asp, to see what are the burial benefits.
